Canillas de Aceituno is a small village located in the foothills of the "La Maroma" mountain in Spain.
The name of the village is said to derive from the Latin "Cannillae" - the area of cane plantations - and the Arabic word "Azeytuni" - woven and dyed silk.
The municipality of Canillas de Aceituno covers 42km2,
with the town centre located at an altitude of 645 m.
The population is around 2300 inhabitants.
The CAC contemporary art gallery in Malaga was opened in 2003. It hosts local and foreign exhibitors. It is free and well worth a visit.
On occasions the weather can be a little extreme in southern Spain. This page illustrates some events our visitors, and the malaga-weather team, have experienced since the site started in 2005
Merida, the Capital of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura, in western Spain, is far from the tourist traps, but boasts one of the largest collections of Roman ruins outside of Italy. The small size of the City, less than 60,000 inhabitants, allows a relatively easy exploration of the historical sites. There are plenty of other towns in the area that are steeped in history, including Trujllo; and the more modern, but still attractive, town of Zafra.
Our roving photographer Rina Trap has found this amazing feature on the beach in Fuengirola ... and it keeps growing by the day!
Zoltan comes from Hungary and has been making sand sculptures for 15 years all along the east coast of Spain. He is now joined by David from the Czech Republic who has created sand sculptures for 4 years.
Well ... the rain did some damage and now the site is being re-designed ...
