Weather in Malaga during April 2010
Another very wet month, but with temperatures not far from average.
Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during April 2010 in Malaga was 20.6 Celsius (69F), and that was slightly below normal for the time of year.  The average minimum temperature was 14.1 Celsius (58F), and that was around 1 Celsius (1.8F) above the normal April value.

The highest temperature recorded  during the month was 27.3 Celsius (81F) on the 23rd, but there were only 6 other days when the temperature exceeded 23 Celsius (73F). One of these warmer days was the 4th, but the remaining 5 high maxima occurred during the last 9 days of the month. There were 9 cool days with maxima below 18 Celsius (64F), with most of the lower temperatures occurring during the second week and the beginning of the third week. The lowest maximum was 16.4 Celsius (61F) on the 18th, and this was the last day during April with a high below 21 Celsius (70F).

There were several fairly mild nights during April, but although the minimum temperature remained above 15 Celsius (59F) on 12 nights, there were only 3 of these nights when minima were above 16 Celsius (61F). The warmest night was the 24th/25th with a low of 17.8 Celsius (64F). There were 9 nights when the temperature fell below 13 Celsius (55F) but only 1 of these cooler nights occurred after the 12th. The coolest night was the 2nd/3rd with a low of 10.1 Celsius (50F). 

Sea temperatures were around 16 Celsius (61F) early in the month but they rose to 18 Celsius (64F) during the third week and remained at that level for the rest of the month.


Rain

The total rainfall during April was 112.5 millimetres (4.4 ins), and this was more than double the long-term average. Measurable rain fell on 6 days, and that was close to average. In the first 4 months of the year over 640 millimetres (25.4 ins.) of rain have fallen, and since mid December (4.5 months) there have been 0ver 970 millimetres (38 ins ) of rain.

Apart from an occasional very light shower, the first 13 days of April were dry. Wet weather followed with all the monthly total falling between the 14th and 19th. The wettest day was the 17th with 46.2 millimetres (1.8 ins) of rain falling. However, the following day produced another 34.5 millimetres (1.4 ins). 

Across southern Spain, April rainfall mostly occurred during the third week, with totals generally well below average, with the notable exception of the Malaga area. The Table below shows the total rainfall for the month, and as a percentage of the long-term average; and also  the number of days with rain falling, plus the average.

Thunder

In Malaga, thunderstorms accompanied the heavy rain overnight and during the morning of the 17th. There was also a brief thunderstorm on the following morning, Several thunderstorms occurred in other parts of southern Spain during the third week of April.

Wind

Winds were mostly gentle or moderate, predominantly from the northwest, but moderate or fresh east to southeast winds occurred during the second week, and for a time during the changeable spell around mid month. On the 15th, east-southeasterly winds became strong with a gust of 40 knots (46 mph) occurring. During the second half of the month winds were generally lighter with gentle northwesterlies giving way to light southeasterly breezes on most afternoons.

Fog

No fog was reported..
