The average maximum temperature during October 2009 in Malaga was 25.3 Celsius (78F), and that was over 2 degrees (3.5F) above normal for the time of year.  The average minimum temperature was 17.5 Celsius (63F), which was slightly above the normal October  value.

The highest temperature recorded  during the month was 32.8 Celsius (91F) on the 3rd, but the 2nd was  only 0.4  degrees cooler. This unusually warm weather was not repeated,  with the high of 27.1 Celsius (81F) on the 4th not bettered during the remainder of October. After mid month, maxima were typically in the range 23 to 26 Celsius (73-79F), but on both the 20th and 21st  the temperature failed to reach 22 Celsius (72F). The coolest day was the 21st with a high of 21.6 Celsius (71F).

There were several warm nights early in the month, and on the night of the 1st/2nd the lowest temperature was 21.7 Celsius (71F). The following night was only 0.4 degrees cooler, but there were only 2 other nights with minima above 20 Celsius (68F), the last of these occurring on the night of the 8th/9th. Generally lows were between 16 and 19 Celsius (61-66F), but on 3 nights the temperature dipped below 15 Celsius (59F). The coolest night was that of the 17th/18th with a minimum of 14.6 Celsius (59F).

Sea temperatures stayed between 20 and 22 Celsius through most of October, apart from a brief dip to 19 Celsius (66F) at the end of the third week,  and perhaps a more lasting fall to 19 Celsius on the last day of the month.

Rain

The total rainfall during October was 16.5 millimetres (0.66 ins.), and this was only around 30% of the long-term average.  Measurable rain was recorded on 4 days, and that was 5 fewer than normal. Heavy dew and sea mist contributed 0.5 millimetres to the total on the 1st, otherwise a brief unsettled interlude after mid month produced the only significant rainfall. The highest total was 13.5 millimetres (0.5 inches) on the 21st, but some areas close to Malaga had considerably larger totals during the night of the 20th/21st. After showery rain on the 22nd, the remainder of the month was dry.

Across southern Spain, October was generally a dry month with most of the rain confined to the same wet interlude that affected Malaga. The table below shows the total rainfall for the month, and as a percentage of the long-term average; and also  the number of days with rain falling, plus the average.
