Weather in Malaga during August 2009
An extremely dry month with a lack of hot days.
Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during August 2009 in Malaga was 29.9 Celsius (86F), and that was very close to the normal for the time of year. The average minimum temperature was 22.7 Celsius (73F), which was nearly 1 degree Celsius (1.8F) above the normal August value.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 35.9 Celsius (97F) on the 7th. Unusually, there were only 3 other days when maxima exceeded 31 Celsius (88F), the 1st, 2nd and 25th. There were 3 days when the temperature failed to rise above 28 Celsius (82F), the 3rd, 9th and 28th. The 9th was the coolest day of the month with a high of 26.7 Celsius (80F).
There were many very warm and unpleasantly humid nights during August, more especially around the middle of the month. There were 5 nights when the temperature remained above 24 Celsius (75F), but the night of the 24th/25th, with a low of 25.9 Celsius (79F), was the only minimum value above 25 Celsius (77F). There were only 2 nights when the temperature fell below 21 Celsius (70F), the 3rd/4th with 20.2 Celsius (68F), and the night of the 8th/9th with 19.5 Celsius (67F).
Sea temperatures, around 23 Celsius (73F) at first, soon rose to between 24 and 26 Celsius (75-79F) with these ideal swimming temperatures maintained until the end of the month.
Rain
No rain fell in the Malaga area during August, but there were thundery showers in parts of southern Spain during the second week. On both the 10th and 11th, showers affected Granada, and on the 11th there was a late afternoon thunderstorm at both Jerez and Murcia..
