Weather in Malaga during March 2009
After the excesses of the previous few months, the weather during March in west Malaga was very close to average.
Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during March 2009 in Malaga was 18.6 Celsius (66F), and that was less than 0.5 Celsius (1F) below average for the time of year. The average minimum was 11.0 Celsius (52F), which was close to 1 Celsius (1.8F) above the March normal.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 23.9 Celsius (75F) on the 28th. There were only 5 other days with maxima exceeding 20 Celsius (68F), the 7th, with a high of 23.6 Celsius (75F), and also from the 24th to 27th inclusive. There were 9 days during the month with maxima below 17 Celsius (63F), but with only 3 of these days occurring during the first fortnight. Nevertheless, the coolest day of the month was recorded on the 2nd with a maximum temperature of 14.8 Celsius (59F).
There were several fairly mild nights scattered throughout March. On 8 nights, the minimum temperature remained above 12 Celsius (54F), and on 2 nights the temperature failed to fall below 14 Celsius (57F). The mildest night was that of the 6th/7th with a low of 14.8 Celsius (57F), but the night of the 17th/18th was almost as mild with a low of 14.5 Celsius. The coolest nights occurred towards the end of the second week and at the end of the month. On 7 of these nights the temperature fell below 10 Celsius (50F), but the coldest night was the 22nd/23rd with a minimum of 7.8 Celsius (46F).
Sea temperatures remained below normal for the time of year, with values around 15 or 16 Celsius (59-61F) at first, slowly rising to 16 or 17 Celsius (61-63F) later in March.
Rain
The total rainfall during March was 57.0 millimetres (2.2 inches) and that was about 5% below the monthly average. Measurable rain fell on 8 days, but although this was 3 days above normal, there were only 4 days when the rainfall exceeded 1.0 millimetre (0.04 inches). Most of the rain occurred at either end of the month, with the heaviest rain concentrated on the 2nd and 3rd. The second wettest day of the month was the 2nd with 4.8 millimetres (0.2 inches) but on the following day 45.5 millimetres (1.8 inches) of rain fell.

Light or gentle southeasterly sea breezes developed on several afternoon, and during the third week moderate or fresh, occasionally strong, east to southeast winds sometimes persisted into the night. On the 17th, the wind gusted to 34 knots (39mph) during the evening, and on the 18th a cool, moderate or fresh, east to southeast wind persisted throughout the day.
