Weather in Malaga during January 2009
Wet. Temperatures near normal but some chilly nights.
Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during January 2009 in Malaga was 15.5 Celsius (60F), and that was close to the normal for the time of year. The average minimum was 8.4 Celsius (47F), which was also close to the January normal.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 20.8 Celsius (69F) on the 23rd. There were only 2 other days with maxima exceeding 18 Celsius (64F), the 18th with a high of 18.9 Celsius (66F), and the 29th with a maximum of 19.8 Celsius (68F). There were 10 days during the month with maxima below 15 Celsius (59F), including 6 consecutive days from the 5th. During this cool spell, the temperature on the 8th only reached 9 Celsius (48F).
There were some mild nights early in January, and on each of the first 4 days, minimum temperatures were above 10 Celsius (50F). There were only 5 other occasions when lows were above 10 Celsius (50F), with the highest value, 13.3 Celsius (56F), occurring on 3 nights, the 1st/2nd, 22nd/23rd and the 28th/29th. All the cool nights, 10 in total with minima below 7 Celsius (45F), occurred between the 7th and 21st. The second week had some particularly cool nights with minima on the 3 consecutive nights 8th/9th, 9th/10th and 10th/11th falling to 2.9, 2.2 and 3.2 Celsius (37,36 and 38F) respectively.
Sea temperatures remained below normal for the time of year, with around 14 Celsius (57F) throughout the month.

January was a wet month with a total of 94.7 millimetres (3.7 inches), and that was nearly 50% above the long-term average. The heaviest rain occurred during the first 5 days of the month, with over 80 millimetres (3.1 inches) falling. On the 4th, 33.3 millimetres (1.3 inches) fell, and on the following day 36.1 millimetres (1.4 inches) was recorded. Measurable rain fell on 12 days, this was 5 days above average.
