Weather in Malaga during July 2008

Dry, sunny and uncomfortably warm.

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during July 2008 in Malaga was 30 Celsius (86F), and that was a  degree Celsius (1.8F) above normal for the time of year.  The average minimum was 22.7 Celsius (73F), a value nearly 3 Celsius (5.4F.) above normal. 

The highest temperature recorded  during the month was 38.2 Celsius (100F) on the 26th, with a maximum exceeding 34 Celsius (93F) occurring on 6 other occasions, including 37.1 Celsius (99F) on the 25th and 36.0 Celsius (97F) on the 31st. There were several relatively cool days during July, and on 4 days the maximum temperature was under 26 Celsius (79F). On both the 5th and 10th the maximum temperature was only 25.0 Celsius (77F).  

There were several very warm and uncomfortable nights during July, especially towards the end of the month. There were 4 nights when the temperature failed to fall below 25 Celsius (77F), including the night of the 26th/27th when the minimum was 27.6 Celsius (82F). The temperature remained above 25 Celsius (77F) continuously from the afternoon of the 24th until late morning on the 27th. Most minima during July were between 22 and 23 Celsius (72-73F), but there were 2 nights when the temperature fell below 20 Celsius (68F). The coolest night was the 7th/8th with a low of 19.6 Celsius. 

Sea temperatures were around 24 or 25 Celsius (75-77F), but during the second week a general upwelling of cold water reduced values to between 21 and 23 Celsius (70-73F) for a few days. The cold sea was responsible for mist and fog for a while on the 8th. 

Rain

A trace of rain fell in the early hours of the 24th from high-level unstable altocumulus.

Unsettled weather occurred in southern Spain around the middle of the month with some heavy, thundery showers falling. Coastal areas east of Motril and hilly parts having the heaviest rain. Most coastal towns remained dry.
