There were no great surprises with the weather during August. It was uncomfortably humid, especially overnight, and the semi-permanent low inversion induced by the daily sea breeze appeared to keep pollution levels high for much of the month. Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during August 2007 in Malaga was 29 Celsius (84F), and that was about average for the month. The average minimum was 22 Celsius (72F), a degree above normal, but probably indicative of the increased urbanization of the area.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 36 Celsius (97F) on the 16th, but with 3 further days, the 6th,12th and 30th when maxima exceeded 33 Celsius (91F). On the 22nd, the temperature failed to rise above 25 Celsius (77F), but there were only 2 days when the maximum was below 27 Celsius (81F).
There were no outstandingly warm nights during August with the highest minimum, 24 Celsius (75F) , occurring on the 4th. However, there were 9 further nights when the minima were above 23 Celsius (73F). On only 2 nights were minimum temperatures below 20 Celsius (68F), with values of 19 Celsius on both the 15th and 17th.
Sea temperatures were between 23 and 25 Celsius (73-75F) throughout the month.
Rain
Rain fell on only 2 occasions during August. On the 22nd, heavy showers occurred, and although only 2mm fell at this site, more than 12mm fell at Malaga Airport, and considerably more at Fuengirola where localised flooding occurred. Many places to the east of Malaga stayed dry, and acroos the mountains at Granada only a trace of rain was recorded. However, at Antequera thunder was heard.
The only other rain that fell during the month was on the morning of the 28th. This light shower from high-level castellanus produced a few dust-laden spots but not enough to measure.
Wind
Winds were generally light or gentle throughout the month with no hot fohn winds again, although returning land breezes during the evenings sometimes lifted temperatures above 30 Celsius (86F) after 8pm, with values remaining close to 30 at midnight.
