There was nothing too unusual in this dry and sunny month, although the upwelling of cold water during the last week was partly responsible for an increase in low cloud, mist and sea fog. Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during July 2007 in Malaga was 29 Celsius (84F), and that was about average for the month. The average minimum was 21 Celsius (70F), a degree above normal, but probably indicative of the increased urbanization of the area.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 35 Celsius (95F) on the 1st, but with 3 further days, the 2nd,18th and 19th when maxima exceeded 33 Celsius (91F). On the 9th, the temperature failed to rise above 25 Celsius (77F), but there were 8 days when the maximum was below 27 Celsius (81F). Three of these days occurred during the last week.
There were no outstandingly warm nights during July with the highest minimum, 23 Celsius (73F) , occurring on the 20th. On only 3 nights were minimum temperatures below 20 Celsius (68F), and on the 23rd it was just 17 Celsius (63F).
Sea temperatures, around 24 Celsius (75F) for much of the month, fell to 21 Celsius (70F), or lower, during the last week as a widespread upwelling of cold water took place. This resulted in extensive sea mist and low cloud formation. On both the 26th and 28th, visibility was down to 50 to 100 metres at times in sea fog. Interestingly, at times while there was thick fog on the beach in west Malaga, the Airport was reporting no cloud and visibility of 10 kilometres or more!
Rain
No rain fell during July as usual, but there was little in the way of convective cloud over the mountains, and only 1 day when altocumulus castellanus (denoting medium-level moisture and instability) spread north from Morocco..
No thunder occurred.
Wind
Winds were generally light or gentle throughout the month with no hot fohn winds of the mountains (thankfully!), Southeast sea breezes usually arrived between 1100 and 1300 hours, and after these died away completely during the evening, a light northwest land breeze would develop overnight and last through much of the morning.
