Weather in Malaga during April 2007

April was a wet month and had the unusual distinction of having cooler days than during the preceding March.

Temperatures

The average maximum temperature during April 2007 in Malaga was 20 Celsius (68F), and that was over 1 deg.C (1.8 deg. F) below the long-term normal for the month.  Unusually, it was nearly 0.5 deg. C (0.9 deg. F) cooler than during the preceding March!  The average minimum was 13 Celsius (55F), a little above normal and indicative of the lack of clear,  calm nights during April.

The highest temperature recorded  during the month was 25 Celsius (77F) on the 14th with the maximum on the 29th only a fraction of a degree lower. On the first 12 days of April there were several unseasonably cool days, and on the 2nd the maximum failed to reach 15 Celsius (59F). The 11th was only marginally less cool, and generally during the early part of the month maxima were only around 16 or 17 Celsius (61-63F). After mid month, it was somewhat sunnier and warmer with highs typically between 19 and 21 Celsius (66-70F).

There were no outstandingly warm nights during April but there were several comfortably mild nights after mid month with minima around 15 Celsius (59F), The  mildest night occurred on the 29th/30th when the temperature only fell a shade below 16 Celsius (61F). Generally, minima were between 12 and 14 Celsius (54-57F) but early in April there were some chilly nights. On 5 occasions during the first 8 nights the temperature fell to 9 Celsius (48F) with the night of the 5th/6th just the coolest.

Sea temperatures, around 15 or 16 Celsius (59-61F) early in the month, only rose slightly towards the end of the month to around 16 or 17 Celsius. Some brave people ventured into the sea off Malaga on the last weekend of the month, and lived to tell the tale.

Rain

After the very dry March, the water authorities were grateful for a wet April. The total of 71.4 mm (2.8 ins) was about 80% above the long-term average.  Most of the rain fell during the first half of April with the period 9th to 12th accounting for over 70% of the monthly total with 52mm recorded. The wettest day was the 12th with a total of 21mm (0.8 ins). Measurable rain fell on 11 days, that's 6 more rain days than average. After the 12th, though, rain only fell on 3 occasions with a total of only 3.3 mm (0.13 ins).

Thunder occurred on 3 days during April. Firstly during the morning of the 2nd. Secondly during the late morning, and again in mid afternoon,  on the 9th;  and finally in the early hours of the 12th, as well as in the late afternoon. On the latter occasion, thunderstorms in Fuengirola were accompanied by hail.

Wind

There were squally winds from the southeast on the 11th, otherwise the wind was an insignificant feature of the weather during April.
