A fairly warm, but rather cloudy and breezy month. Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during October 2006 in Malaga was 23 Celsius (73F), and that's equal to the long-term nornal for the month. The average minimum was 18 Celsius (64F). This can be explained by the increased urbanisaion of the area, stronger breezes than are usually experienced on October nights, and a preponderance of cloudy skies.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 31 Celsius (88F) on the 3rd, a fraction of a degree warmer than the highest temperature recorded in the previous September. After the first 4 days, most maxima were in the range 21 to 24 Celsius (70-75F), but on the 26th the maximum failed to rise above 20 Celsius (68F), the coolest day of the month.
The night-time minima were mostly in the range 17 to 19 Celsius (63-66F) with 4 nights nudging 20 Celsius (68F). The highest values was 19.8 Celsius on the 1st. Some of the coolest nights occurred at the end of the 1st week and the beginning of the 2nd with lows of 15 or 16 Celsius (59-61F), but as dawn broke on the morning of the 8th the temperature was 14 Celsius (57F), the lowest temperature recorded during October.
Sea temperatures, around 20 Celsius (68F) early in the month, only fell slowly and were still around 19 Celsius (66F) as the month ended.
Rain
October can be a very wet month with some heavy downpours, however, although rain fell on 1 day in 4, twice as often as normal, amounts in this part of Malaga were fairly small. The total of 26 mm (1 inch) represented less than 50% of the long-term average. The thunderstorms on the evening of the 18th only fringed this site and produced less than 2 mm (0.08 inches). The wettest day was the windy 23rd when 8 mm (0.3 inches) of rain fell as big waves pounded the beach.
