No surprises in a typically dry, hot and sunny July. Temperatures
The average maximum temperature during July 2006 in Malaga was 30 Celsius (86F), and the average minimum was 22 Celsius (72F). Both maxima and minima were about 1 degree Celsius above the long-term average.
The highest temperature recorded during the month was 40 Celsius (104F) on the 22nd and this was the only very hot day. The second hottest day was the 5th with 35 Celsius (95F), and only 5 other days had maxima above 30 Celsius (86F). An upwelling of cold water, that occurred in late June, continued to have an influence on the temperature and weather during the first week of July. On the 1st, persistent sea fog and low cloud resulted in temperatures not rising above 24 Celsius (75F), the coolest day of the month.
In early July there were some tolerably cool nights, a result of the adjacent cool sea. On the first 4 nights of the month temperatures fell below 20 Celsius (68F), with the lowest value, 17 Celsius (63F), occurring around dawn on the 2nd. From the 8th until the end of the month all minima were between 22 and 24 Celsius (72-75F), with the 28th a fraction warmer than the others with 24.3 Celsius.
Sea temperatures early in the month were around 19 or 20 Celsius, (66-68F), cooler than around the Baltic coasts, the coasts of Netherlands, Belgium and parts of England. The humid air over the cool sea resulted in sea fog on the 1st, and again for a while on the 7th. However, after the first week, sea temperatures returned to normal and for much of the remainder of the month values were close to 24 or 25 Celsius (75-77F).
Rain
July is usually a dry month, and the statistics will show that this month was no exception. However, there was a thunderstorm on the morning of the 12th that produced some heavy rain northwest of Malaga, and showers on the evening of the 18th were enought to dampen the ground but too light to register in the rainguage.
